Montclair Railroad Trail
Our all-volunteer board of local trail enthusiasts was formed in 2010 and has focused on protecting and improving the trail to create a lasting natural legacy for future generations. Friends of Montclair Railroad Trail is a non-profit 501(c)(3).
Our activities run the gamut. There’s always something going on:

Some of the many things we take on:
- Helping native oaks stay healthy by pulling off climbing ivy
- Redirecting runoff water to prevent flooding and mud pools
- Spreading wildflower seeds
- Staying ahead of invasives
- Planting natives like coast live oaks, bee plant, sage, milkweed and buckwheat
- Removing graffiti and trash
- Hauling off eucalyptus sheddings before they become a fire risk
To tackle special projects, we also coordinate with neighbors, city departments, local businesses, non-profits and sister trail organizations.
Working together, we’ve reduced the fuel-load by culling aging eucalyptus, restored a drainage system that used to flood the Montclair Village businesses below and intervened in a PG&E transmission-line project — ensuring that a large natural meadow of natives and pollinators was restored.
